Moving changes everything

Let's do the work to ensure the change is for the better.

Shelby Chambers, Executive Coach

In addition to traditional executive coaching, I offer coaching for transplants navigating the beautiful, complicated reality of building a life and career in a new country.

Moving abroad is as exciting as it looks on paper, and about ten times as confusing, isolating, and stressful as you ever imagined. Do it anyway, but know that you can navigate the change, confusion, and hard times with the right thinking partner.

The Problem

Most of us move abroad with a clear picture of what we're moving toward. What's hard to anticipate is what gets lost along the way: professional confidence, a sense of direction, a clear answer to the question what am I doing here, and is it working?

Whether you're trying to find work in a French professional culture that operates by rules nobody explained to you, rebuilding a career identity after leaving a job or title behind, navigating the gap between who you were at home and who you're becoming here, or simply feeling more overwhelmed and alone than you expected, you're not doing it wrong. It's literally just that hard.

WHAT I CAN HELP WITH
  • Professional clarity and direction: figuring out what you actually want your career to look like in this new context, and building a practical path to get there.

  • Identity and confidence in transition: working through the disorientation that comes when your professional and personal identity doesn't transfer cleanly across a border.

  • Decision-making under uncertainty: the specific kind of stuck that comes from being in a new country with fewer reference points, more variables, and less of your usual support network.

  • Building your life here with intention:  not just surviving the adjustment, but designing the version of this chapter that you actually want, both professionally and personally.

Why work with shelby?

I'm an American who has built a professional life across Paris and Los Angeles, which means I've done what you're doing, and I understand both sides of the cultural gap from the inside.

I've spent 17 years working inside global companies, including Disney, Guthy-Renker, and Mars, which means I understand professional culture, career strategy, and organizational dynamics at a senior level. I hold an MBA from UCLA Anderson and am completing my executive coaching certification through Erickson International.

I also write Franchement, a Substack about life in France read by thousands of people navigating the same path that you are. I know this experience not just as a coach, but as someone living it.

I bring to my coaching a genuine fluency in both worlds, a strategic mind, and a desire to help people feel better, more included, settled, and happy during their transition to a new life abroad.
